True Friends

great-friend-pocket-card-line2.jpg

Today I have a cute Friendship card to show using a set I LOVE from the Spring Mini called “Great Friend” It has so many images that appeal to me, To start off with I love, love, love Butterflies my love of Butterflies started when I was a little girl and my Dear little Grandma gave my a glittery Brooch in a Butterfly shape and I remember how much I loved it and in fact I still have it is my treasure box with other items that mean a lot to me, Grandma kept the Butterfly thing going once she realised how much I treasured the Brooch she gave me by getting me magnets and stickers as little gifts. Its funny the small highlights we remember from our childhood because I am sure Grandma had no idea that small gift would form into such a strong memory for me. … Anyway Moving on…. {focus Teneale}

I have also used the leaf image in this set for the background stamping it in VersaMark, It’s great how Stampin’ Up! Co-ordinate images within a set for example the leaf I have used on the background is also in the Butterfly wing detail {love that} AND I really love having Co-ordinating Printed Papers…. I have used the Printed Papers on the scallop. To create the scallop I punched out a bunch of Circles using my 1” circle punch and attached them along the outside of a larger circle making a lovely scallop circle.

As you can see this card has a little secret pocket by pulling the little bow in the top corner, a special message is revealed…. I love designing cards with a little surprise. The stamp I have used for the “True Friend” is from the Friendly Words wheel that I took off the wheel and cut up to make a Fabulous Friendship Greeting set, To see how I did that scroll down to the next post of click here.

Playful Pocket

playful-petals-pock-card-line.jpg

This is possibly the brightest card I have made in a while and the brightest I would probably make because I am not really a “bright” person {in more ways the one lol}, They are also colours I normally would not use together but I really like the finished product. I was asked to design a few “pocket” cards for a friend who wants to make them to give to members of her staff, The brief was bright, cheery and girlie. She wants pocket cards so she can put gift vouchers in the pocket with a note on the tag….This is the first of a few that I came up with and I will show you the other cards over the coming week.

I have used Playful Petals on this card, I really like this set because it was easy to use and I do like stamps that I can watercolour, even thou I have a long running love hate relationship with water colouring. I have stamped the image on SU watercolour paper then coloured with a Blender Pen and the ink from the lid of an ink pad. On the Almost Amethyst section of the flower I have also used a Marker to colour the centre of the small circles direct to paper giving a darker tone. I have used the flower image on the Pretty in Pink Cardstock by stamping in VersaMark. I have used the Circle image on the So Saffron Card. I think what sets this card off is the Dazzling Diamonds, which I have applied using Two Way glue.

playful-petals-pock-card-main-image.jpg

Just thought I would show you a shot with the tag coming out, A note can be written on the tag. I have left the tag quite plain by just stamping the flower image in the corner using VersaMark. The pocket it self is super easy to make, I cut a piece of Pretty in Pink Cardstock 21cm x 10.5cm I scored a line at 9cm and folded that over and adhere using Sticky Strip and you really do need Sticky Strip because it is so strong. In this case I have folded back the right corner before adhering. The Tag is Almost Amethyst Cardstock cut to 8cm x 11cm. The ribbon at the top makes it easy to pull out the tag.

playful-petals-pock-card-tag-out.jpg

WHY? Do I have a close up shot of the ribbon…… Well, I wanted to show you a close up of the FREE Ribbon that you receive when you spend $100 this month…. Yep… FREE Ribbon….You receive 9m of this Certainly Celery Twill Ribbon AND 9m of So Saffron Grosgrain Ribbon. That’s 18m for FREE. This ribbon is not sold in the Catalogue and is only around for September. Read HERE for more info. {Can you tell I am excited about free ribbon}

Simple Tree Trimming

tree-trimming-aug-sas-line.jpg

Tree Trimmings is one of my fave Christmas Set this year. It is in the Spring Mini and Super value at only $24.95. I could not wait to get playing with it and get a head start on my Christmas Card. For me Christmas Cards need to be simple because I make so many of them. This card is just very simple with only a few layers which I am not used to but I am really happy with this card.

To make this card, All I have done is folded Old Olive A5 Cardstock in Half. Tied Ribbon around a piece of Baja Breeze and attached to the front of the card as shown. For the main image panel I have stamps the Strings in Choc Chip at different levels using a Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to make sure they are all straight, While I had the Choc Chip ink pad open I stamped the greeting for Best Yet. The Christmas balls were Stamped on Whisper White then cut out and attached with a Stampin’ Dimensional to the end of each string. I guess I could of made the cards a bit quicker had I not cut out the balls, BUT…. That’s just not me {lol}.

Fifth Avenue Slider

slider-card-5th-ave-line.jpg

I have had such a big weekend, Well the biggest I have had in a few months, But I can say I have had a great weekend. One of my Fabulous Downlines Maree arrived in Sydney on Friday Afternoon from Jindabyne for a weekend of Stamping, Shopping and Catching up. So Friday night she and 9 others come over for a Christmas SAS {which I will show later in the week}, Saturday we went to the Stiches and Craft show were I met up with some old and new downlines {Waving Julia and Kate}, Shopped a little but with all the excitement I left very early and went home for a “Nanna Nap” before Maree come over for a dinner and a Stamping Session that night, Maree and I have these session when ever she comes to Sydney and I try to show her as much as I can fit into 5 or so hours, Then she going back home and shows her Friends and Customers.

One of the projects Maree and I made last night was this double Slider card, Which we watched the SUPER talented Makeesha Byl make it in her presentation at Convention back in May. I made mine a little different but Makessha has a tutorial on her blog showing you how to make one HERE {Thank you Makeesha if you read my blog}. All I did was were Makessha made hers like a pocket starting with 10.5cm x 21cm strip, that she folders in half. I started with a A5 sheet folded in half which is my card base, I also had a A6 Card front {Baja Breeze} that I trimmed a little to show a boarder once attached to the card base. By Doing this it turned it into a Card instead of a pocket.

slider-card-5th-ave-1.jpg

I think I need to add a tab or ribbon to make it easier to pull, You can see here why they call it a Double slider card.

slider-card-5th-ave-2.jpg

Inside the card: Because I have “SO” many layers of cardstock on the front of the card, I needed to “weight” the back down so it did not fall over when standing. I have just stamped the 3 flower images from Fifth Avenue Floral on Whisper White and layered that on Kiwi Kiss Cardstock then attached to the inside card. Not sure why I took the photo like this on a angle but you get the gist.

Inspired Ghost

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

inspired-ghost-baja-line.jpg

My title for this blog entry makes me laugh because I am SO not inspired as you know but the “Inspired” comes from the stamps I used called “Inspired by Nature” which I just love, It is a stamp set that is SO easy to use and no matter what you do it looks ok. In an effort to get inspired and find my missing mojo I pulled out some old Technique notes and found notes on Ghosting and thought I would give it a go. It was a fun technique as all you do is brayer ink over Vellum and while the ink is wet stamp a “dry” bold image on the inked up Vellum and the image picks up the ink and creates this lovely and soft reversed image. It’s a great way to use up some vellum because I think every Card marker and even Scrapbookers have lots of vellum in their stash that is hardly used.

I have attached a little Printed Paper and ribbon on the main image panel, The background is just the Grass image from the Inspired by Nature stamp set which I have clear embossed to add a little pop.

flower-fancy-friends-marelle-line.jpg

Well, it has been a little while since my last post…. Sorry about that. I have received several emails in the past week checking in to see if I had forgotten about my little old blog and to see if I am ok……….Well I am not sure what to say. To be completely honest I have not been making any cards lately and I have had hardly any classes {shock} I am just not feeling creative or myself at the moment, I have been a little under the weather and I am just taking a little time to “heal”. I don’t really know what to say but I am sorry for not blogging. I have however gone through my card stack and taken photos of some cards I have made and not posted mostly because I did not think they were any good so I do have some cards to show you over the coming weeks…. Don’t get too excited but they aren’t that great {lol}

I have also received over 60 emails asking for a tutorial of my secret message card from my last post, To start with I have never felt so popular so thanks for that. I have been working on a tutorial but not only am I “un-creative” at the moment, My brain is not working so it may have a short delay.

The long and short of it is, Please bear with me at the moment, I really love the fact that people visit my blog and I will try to return to normal programming soon.

In the meantime I have this quick card for you, It’s not my normal style but it was just a card I whipped up the other day for a very sweet friend of mine, A few of you may of heard of her… Well she is the famous Marelle Taylor. We had been on the phone for a “quick chat” which are never quick {lol} and I just wanted to post her a note to just say thanks for being her. I hope I am not alone, I make so many cards but I never seem to send any to friends and family…. So if you are like me, I challenge you to think of a friend or family member that needs a pick up, a thank you for something or just say Hi and send them a card…. Go on…do it.

a-kind-word-sliding-greeting-line.jpg

Miss me???? I know some people did because I have the emails to prove it {lol}. Well I have been back from Brisbane for a few days but I was straight back into classes, Which was not a great idea because I am still a little frazzled from all the excitement of the past week… I had such a wonderful time at the expo and I really enjoyed all my classes and everyone was just so lovely and friendly. I was able to catch up with old friends and make new ones, I don’t want to name drop but one of my new friends is the amazing and talented Zoe Pearn, Zoe is a Paper designer for My Minds Eye Which is one of my fave paper company’s. Her papers are wonderful and I love her Scrapbook style, She is an Aussie designing for an American based company, She designs from her Studio in Brisbane but I thought she was American, So when she started talking I was a little surprised to hear the Australian accent. I am pretty sure this is not the last time I will speak of Zoe {wink}

I want to thank the girls at Scrapapple Angela, Louisa and Stacey for having me teach for them, A huge thankyou to the my classroom assistants essentially Janelle and I really need to thank my Mum who saved the day several times over the week including when we got a flat tyre on my car in the middle of Brisbane and she quite bravely went into a worksite and asked some lovely guys to come and help, While I stood at my car saying No, Mum I can do it myself…. Then the guys come over and I could not even workout where my spare tyre was, Which just incase anyone else drives a PT Cruiser, our spare tyre is under the car {lol}.

I do have a little more exciting news to share about the expo but I can’t spill the beans yet…. As soon as I can I will let you know.

I do have a card to show you after all my chit chat, This is one of the cards that we did in my class this week after I got home. It is just a cute card from the front how you can see the little girl through the Window.

No-one Guessed??????

line-bag-wipe.jpg

So no-one guessed what technique I used on the below card, I was offering a prize for the first person to guess and a random winner from everyone who guessed. Seeing that no-one guessed correct I am giving the prize to the closest first answer which was using makers, That winner is Leanne Frank {Leanne I have emailed you and you have won Best yet stamp set}. The random winner is Casey J {Casey I have emailed you for mailing details as you have in-colour ribbon pack on its way out to you}. Thank you to everyone who played along.

inspired-bag-tech-olive-plum-2.jpg

Do you want to know what I did?????? It was easy….. I am surprised no one guessed it. I don’t know the name of it but is goes a little something like this……

1. Using Pale Plum SU Marker Colour direct to the rubber over the flower petals. {Note I have only inked up two of the flowers}
pale-plum-1.jpg

2. Colour direct to rubber again this time with Old Olive Marker on the leafs and stem.
old-olive-2.jpg

{I know you’re thinking mmmm….. I have seen this before…….}
3. Using a plastic bag {YES a plastic bag} put it over your finger and you’re going to drag it down the petals…. Can you see what is happening
wipe-3.jpg

4. Now do the same on the leafs and stem with a clean section of the bag.
wipe-4.jpg

5. In my case I have now “thumped” with a Perfect Plum marker on the top of each flower adding a different texture.

perfect-plum-5.jpg

6. Then I just gave the rubber a little “huff” and stamped the image down on to Whisper White Cardstock.

By dragging the plastic bag over the bold image it moved the ink around creating light and shade without removing much of the ink and still keeping the colours strong. Plastic bags can also create many different effects on bold images I could of applied a darker tone to the image by scribbling the darker colour to the bag and then dragging over the lighter colour.

I have another way I have used a Plastic bag on Bold Images creating a different effect again which I will post in a few days.

Thanks for dropping by and understood what I was talking about {giggle}.

Love new stamps

friends-24-7-blue-bird-line.jpg
I just love how new stamps and supplies can bring back your Mojo….I think it’s safe to say my “dry” spell is over, For the past few months I just feel like I had lost my Mojo, My “wow” factor….But I have been making a few cards this week using some of my new stamps and I feel like I have it back, This is just the start of the new cards….. I know they are good cards because My Sister {who does not really get the Cardmaking/stamping thing} said she liked them….. SHOCK.

Anyway, I have used Friends 24-7 and A Rose is a Rose to create this card. I must say these are my two Favourite sets from the new Catty…….SO MANY nice sets but…. AND the new papers…..OMG……… You will see over the next few posts I am loving the new papers. Just a couple of things on this card, I have used the new Build a Brad {which I loooooove} I attached a large Pearl from the Pretties kit in the centre and following the “flag” trend that is huge in Papercraft at the moment I cut a strip of paper then using my square punch I just create the V {SO much easier then just cutting it cut with paper snips}

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

I am back with not a great card but a card… *So cute* yesterday I got 2 emails asking if I have gone “shy” again not blogging…NO, I have been SO sick (still am) with a bad case of the flu and my voice sounds like a cross between a Man and a Horse, SO I am not allowed to talk for the next 2 days because I am at the Papercraft Festival in Sydney this weekend and I NEED to be able to talk all weekend so the doctor told me to let my voice box rest…This NO talking thing is hard, I never realised how much I like talking.

I will stop talking and get on to my card….
brayer-pink-thanks.jpg

I did this card for my Technique classes last month and in EVERY class someone would take the card off me so I would stop playing with it, I guess I was showing my age… {giggle}

Anyway this is what my card looks like…

Vintage Blush

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

Well its almost been a week since I started blogging… It’s fun but I think I am addicted to getting comments, My laptop is on my stamping desk and I find myself hitting refresh regularly to see if anyone has left me a comment, If I get a new comment I get so excited and I am not getting much work done, But don’t let that stop you leaving me comments :0) It has been lovely reading comments that I have inspired a few people and I am surprised with the number of visitors I am having, So Thank you for stopping by.

I need to focus and talk about this card, I have mixed feeling about this card… You know when you make a card and are happy with it…. You pack everything away, then look at the card again and don’t like it. The ladies at my class tonight all loved it, But I am still not sure. If you like my card and want to make your own, Well your in luck I have two spots left for my Technique class on Friday night, You will make this card and another card I do really LOVE, or just contact me about booking your own class and I will come to you (if you live in Sydney).
